Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said the Pakistan Citizen Portal (PCP) is the first step in empowering the people of the country and will help improve civic services delivery.

The PCP was established on the directions of the prime minister to create a robust link between the government and the people of the country. The portal has enabled the citizens to highlight their issues and seek intervention at the highest level for their resolution.

The premier, speaking at the two-year performance review of the portal, advised citizens to use the portal as frequently as possible to allow the government to identify weaknesses in government departments and to resolve their issues.

“The PCP is a powerful tool which helps identify which government institutions and departments are incompetent and which ones actually do their job,” the prime minister stated.

Appreciating the portal, Imran said it works under the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit, which is a step towards empowering the common people and added that the government is duty-bound to look after the weaker segments of the society.

"Three million people have used the portal," said the prime minister and added that their satisfaction level was high. He explained that the portal also assists in providing a complete picture regarding the response and performance of ministries and various departments.

“The more people use this portal, the more we will be able to improve conditions in the country,” he said.

The prime minister added that through the portal, municipal services appear to be the least responsive in addressing people's grievances and the country's local government system has lagged behind in fulfilling the needs of the people.

Explaining the measures taken by his government, PM Imran said the incumbent government will introduce a new local government system under which funds will be directly transferred to the village-level, and under this system, he said the people will be empowered to use the municipal funds as per their needs and priorities.

The prime minister further said city governments will be established in the larger urban areas of the country through direct elections to address civic issues locally.

He also urged non-resident Pakistanis to make use of the portal, and once again commended them and said they are an asset of the country.

Referring to corruption in the provinces of Sindh and Punjab, he urged the people to use the portal for corruption-related complaints and assured that the government will then take action against the officials.

He also lauded the efforts of the PMDU in making PCP a success.
