Int値 flights grounded as Pakistan fears take off in number of corona cases

ISLAMABAD:
The government has decided to suspend all international flights operation for two weeks in a bid to contain the spread of novel coronavirus as total number of confirmed infections surpassed 600 on Saturday.

The ban will be effective from 8pm today till April 4, according to an official statement issued on Saturday.

Prime Minister痴 Special Assistant on National Security Moeed Yusuf, while speaking to the media, said the deicision was taken in a meeting of National Coordination Committee (NCC) on coronavirus, presided over by PM Imran Khan on Friday.

However, he said certain Pakistan International Airline (PIA) flights that are currently in various European and other countries will be allowed to return, adding that cargo flights are also exempted from the restriction.

典his is a temporary suspension for two weeks a decision taken after taking input from all advisers and relevant groups, said the SAPM.

Furthermore, this suspension is also not applicable on diplomats travelling to Pakistan. 典he restriction is only on passenger planes, he clarified.
