Members of the opposition parties in Punjab expressed their anger after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s interview on Mumbai attacks in 2008.
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Senior Leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi expressed anger over Nawaz’s interview. “Nawaz has once again committed treason against Pakistan in order to shroud his corruption,” he expressed.
Speaking to media person on Sunday, Elahi stressed that the Sharif brothers and their associates were busy conspiring against the country, the army and the judiciary.
“They are continuously scheming with the help of their ‘foreign friends’. They should take care to remember that 200 million Pakistanis will ultimately foil their plans,” he maintained.
“Those working against the interest of Pakistan can try their level best, but they will not succeed in their nefarious ploys. The people are well aware that such individuals give precedence to their personal interests over national interest,” he remarked.
Further, Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed said the deposed premier was a Pakistani spokesperson for India’s Bharatiya Janata Party. “The people will enact their revenge by voting against the ruling party in the upcoming general elections,” he expressed.
“Nawaz has become a puppet for foreign powers. He is trying to create unrest,” he emphasised. He urged the people of Pakistan to unite against the conspiracies of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
“They are attacking the solidarity of the country and are trying to push Pakistan towards martial law,” he said.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Janoobi Punjab Suba Mahaz (JPSM) Secretary General Tahir Basharat Cheema said Nawaz was working for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while his own party was struggling to strengthen Pakistan and the federation.
“Nawaz is working for the enemy’s agenda,” he articulated. “Earlier, he (Nawaz) deceived the people of South Punjab and now he has betrayed the entire nation due to his irresponsible statements.”
In Cheema’s view, Nawaz was trying to get Modi’s support by issuing anti-Pakistan statements in order to save his sinking ship. “PML-N’s own leaders are also annoyed over the irresponsible attitude of their party’s patron.”
“Nawaz should clarify his statement and inform the nation about his actual ideology for Pakistan. Several South Punjab leaders are expected to join our movement because they have lost faith in the ruling party,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) executive council also termed Nawaz’s statements as treasonous. The council demanded that a high power commission be constituted to probe Nawaz’s statements.
The council also condemned PML-N’s anti-state, anti-army and anti-judiciary statements. To counter such moves, the council has decided to actively participate in the upcoming general elections, said PAT Supreme Council Chairman Dr Hassan Mohiuddin.
In addition to this, PAT senior leader Nawaz Gandapur demanded a treason case be registered against the former premier’s anti-Pakistan statements.
