Bridging The Gap
Google will now make more money, thanks to your shopping searches.
  Tuesday 20 March, 2018
Google will now make more money, thanks to your shopping searches.

Google, which already makes money when you search for anything on its service, will now turn a shopper’s query into revenue as well.

According to a report by Reuters, Google is partnering with retailers such as Target, Walmart, Home Depot and Costco. Daniel Alegre, President for Retail and Shopping at Google said, “The previously unreported initiative sprang from Google’s observation that tens of millions of consumers were sending image searches of products, asking “Where can I buy this?” “Where can I find it?” “How can I buy it?” “How do I transact?” Over the past two years, mobile searches asking where to buy products soared by 85 percent.

Under this new program, retailers can now list their products on Google Search, as well as on the Google Express shopping service, and Google Assistant on mobile phones and voice devices. In exchange for their listing, retailers pay Google a piece of each purchase, which is different from payments that retailers make to place ads on Google platforms.

He added, “We have taken a fundamentally different approach from the likes of Amazon because we see ourselves as an enabler of retail. We see ourselves as part of a solution for retailers to be able to drive better transactions ... and get closer to the consumer.”

Smart voice devices like Amazon Echo and Google Home will be installed in 55 percent of US households by 2022, according to Juniper Research, as pointed out by Reuters.

Recently, Google also announced the launch of Google Assistant in Hindi. The Assistant in Hindi is rolling out to Android phones 6.0+ (Marshmallow and above) and soon coming to Android 5.0 Lollipop, iPhones as well as Android Oreo (Go edition) devices.

The Google Assistant lets you have a conversation with Google to help you get things done in your world from telling you about your day, to finding the fastest route to work, or just setting an alarm for the next day all in Hindi. To try it out, just touch and hold the Home button or say "Ok Google" on eligible smartphones and your personal Google Assistant will be ready to help you throughout your day. Even when your hands are full, you can quickly send text messages, set reminders, or get directions with the Google Assistant.
