\'First time witnessed seat of justice spewing venom\', Maryam tweets after SC verdict

Maryam Nawaz, the political heir apparent to deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif, has reacted angrily to the detailed judgement of the Supreme Court in the Panamagate case.

In a series of tweets on the microblogging site Twitter, she said that it was the first time she has witnessed the “seat of justice spewing venom”. She was referring to the top court verdict.

“The latest decision [detailed judgement] is based more on ‘adjectives’ than law,” she added. “First time witnessed seat of justice spewing venom.”

In the detailed judgment, the apex court said the deposed prime minister had tried to fool the masses in and outside parliament … and even tried to fool the top court.

The judges also observed that Maryum, prima facie, was the beneficial owner of the London’s Avenfield apartments – an observation which belies the Sharif family’s claim.

The detailed verdict came hours after Sharif conferred with his top aides on the country’s political situation and the corruption cases against the ruling family pending in accountability courts.

The Sharif family has alleged that the verdict in the Panamagate case was biased. “This decision could only be under immense pressure otherwise such travesty of justice is unimaginable,” Maryam wrote in one of her tweets.

“The [actual] verdict was announced the day when justices showed their impartiality by calling [Sharif and his ruling PML-N] Godfather and Sicilian mafia,” she said.

Earlier in the day, the accountability court reserved its judgement on a Sharif petition to club corruption references against the Sharif family. The judgement will be announced on Wednesday (tomorrow).

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor has opposed clubbing of the three references against the Sharif family.
