ELECTIONS ACT CASE: PARLIAMENT ORDERED TO PROTECT KHATM-E-NABUWWAT OATH.

ELECTIONS ACT CASE: PARLIAMENT ORDERED TO PROTECT KHATM-E-NABUWWAT OATH.

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday announced its judgement in a case pertaining to the amendments made to the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath in the Elections Act 2017.

In its short verdict, IHC judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui stated that the parliament should take concrete steps to ensure protection of Khatm-e-Nabuwwat.

Khatm-e-Nabuwwat is the basis of our religion and it is the duty of every Muslim to protect this belief, the court added.

The court stated that an oath concerning the identity of Muslims and non-Muslims must be taken for the provision of national identity cards, birth certificates, electoral lists and passports.

The court also ordered all applicants for public offices declare their belief on oath to be eligible.

The number of people hiding their identity in the census and NADRA documents was alarming.

The court ordered the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to set a deadline by which citizens could ‘correct’ their religion specified on their documents.

The detailed verdict of the case will be issued later.
