Awareness about Sustainable Bioplastic from Sugarcane Bagasse

Sugarcane plants changed the world through its potential in bioenergy, ethanol, biofuel and bioplastic. It is cultivated in more than 120 countries in the world. In developing countries especially in Pakistan its uses as sugar production only. But in the world, its uses for ethanol, bioenergy and biofuel. Brazil has tremendous innovation by exploiting sugarcane plants into renewable bioplastic, which is economically viable and eco-friendly. Non-degradable traditional plastic has become a major threat economically and environmentally due to its production of traditional fossil fuel-based results greenhouse gas emission. Pakistan is under the list of those countries that are more threatened due to climate change.

Therefore, we have to use bioplastic which is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. For this purpose, sugarcane bagasse is one of the most available resources that is used for making bioplastic. It is prepared from sugarcane bagasse without adding any additives. Bioplastics have the same physical and chemical properties as ordinary plastic.

Sugarcane-based bioplastics generate fewer carbon dioxide emissions during production as compare to traditional plastic. Therefore, it is the need of the day to create awareness among people about the harmful effects of traditional plastic on the environment and human health. The government should have organized awareness workshops and events where all stakeholders came together to discuss the production of bioplastic by utilization of sugarcane plants.
