An Analysis of Nutritional Habits of School Students at Elementary School Level In Tehsil Faisalabad Sadar, Pakistan.

Nutrition is an important factor for the fitness of the children or for the public, in addition it is central matter found in community. Good nourishment is a key feature in pupilīs fitness. School age is an energetic period of physical growth and mental development of the child. Health problems due to bad nutritional status in school-age children can cause insufficient classroom performance, in addition to multiple health and psychological issues, so school health services can support in the development of every child as health education can be achieved best in the school. Since eating patterns established in childhood tend to continue until adulthood. Helping children develop healthy food habits from an early age is important to protect the health of future generations. Nutritious analysis is an essential part of a whole fitness and the purpose of the current study is to recognize the influence of nutritional information and eating behaviors amongst school students on their nutritious fitness position. In demand to know the consumption ways of pupils, it develops essential to evaluate the nutritious habits of school students that themselves choose to eat. One residence where they eat is school, where they have varied types of nutrition goods. In this study Tehsil Faisalabad Sadar was selected as a study area. All the students of Government girlsí elementary schools were served as study population. The population of this study comprised of 81 school. Out of which, 10 school were selected randomly through simple random sampling technique. From each selected school, 12 students were selected randomly thus making a sample size of 120 respondents. A well-developed interview schedule was used for acquiring data. The collected data was analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for effective conclusions and recommendations. The analysis of the nutriontional habits of school students about a last month showed that more than half (55.8 %) of the respondents were eat biscuits in breakfast. A vast majority (85.0 %) of the respondents frequently skip snacks. A fair majority (64.2%) of the respondents reported that they frequently prefer to eat naan and papar from their canteen in schools. A fair majority (69.2%) of the respondents reported that in lunch patterns they frequently prefer to eat only fast food, canteen food and never bring packed lunch. More than half (51.6%) of respondent agreed that they have somewhat awareness about nutritious knowledge of food groups, what they are eating at school or home. Majority (50.0%) of the students definitely consider price and taste of food when they were buying food for eating from their school canteen. More than one fifth (25.8%) of the respondents were agreed that they make healthy food choices at their school canteen. On the basis of findings some suggestions were devised, need to develop health programs and implanting them at the elementary level to promote healthy eating. Schools should provide suitable facilities for school canteen. Implement health education in classrooms that provides students with the knowledge, skills and experiences needed for healthy eating. School administration must cooperate with parents in discussing healthy snacks and meals for lunch in school time. Develop the combination of nutrition education, teacherís training and course curriculum of teacherís training institutes. So, teacher inspires pupils to recognize personal healthful activities.
